Nothing burns quite like watching someone you care about slowly retreat behind polite, one-word boundaries. you deserve so much credit for showing that choosing yourself at the end isn't a defeat, but a real victory.. brilliant Xiaobian..🥹🫶🏻
Priyanshu, I think what hurt me most was realizing that he may not have been retreating at all. The boundary might have been there the whole time—I had just been reading the warmth around it as proof that I had crossed it.
That made the ending feel strange to me, because nothing had to become false for the story I believed in to fall apart. His kindness could still be real. My feelings could still be real. And I could still have been walking much farther than he ever had.
So yes, choosing myself mattered—but I didn’t want it to feel like a grand victory. More like finally putting down the map of a journey I had been taking alone. Thank you for seeing this one so tenderly, Priyanshu. You always seem to find the quieter turn underneath the obvious one. 🥹🫶
I'm glad Xiaobian..🩷 and witnessing a shared story completely collapse without having to make the other person a villain is a profound realization and you explained that delicate boundary perfectly.. 🫶🏻
Exactly, Priyanshu. I think that was the hardest mercy in this piece—letting the story end without rewriting his kindness into deception just to make the ending easier to survive.
Sometimes nothing has to become ugly for something to be over. That truth hurts differently, but I think it also leaves more room for tenderness toward what was real.
I’m really glad we met each other in this part of the piece. 🥹🫶
It truly means the world that we met in this specific part of your writing, Xiaobian..🫶🏻🥹 saving room for tenderness toward what was real, rather than forcing a villain story just to survive the ending, takes so much beautiful maturity.
That means so much to me, Priyanshu. 🥹 I think this is one of those parts I didn’t fully know how to explain until someone met me there and gently handed it back to me in words.
Maybe that’s why this exchange has stayed with me so much. I’m really grateful our words keep finding each other in these quieter corners. It makes writing feel a little less solitary. 🫶💗
This exact exchange has stayed close to my heart too, Xiaobian.. It is a beautiful feeling when someone truly understands your voice without you having to over-explain yourself..🫶🏻🥰
